Form chair by Simon Legald | Normann Copenhagen

The Form collection has been designed by Simon Legald and produced by Normann Copenhagen.
With a range of molded shell chairs, armchairs, barstools and dining tables Simon Legald merges a strong historical design idiom with an innovative industrial design production.

The designer Simon Legal explains: “I've developed a technique that allows the connections between the frame and seat to be a naturally integrated part of the design. The frame is secured by a single plastic mould, which makes it appear almost as if the frame is growing out of the shell. This gives the design flexibility and makes it possible to vary the frame in a great number of ways. Form Chair is a combination of traditional craftsmanship and design history. At the same time, it is entirely unique”.

The Form Chairs are crafted combining a wood or steel frame with a molded plastic seat, while the table has oak legs and a linoleum covered table top. The Form shells are all created of high quality polypropylene plastic and have been molded using one single injection. As a result you get an extremely strong construction and a fine, matte and homogenous surface.

ps: The new range was Legald’s graduation project at The Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 2012.

“Honesty is what makes a product understandable and is what describes the products functionality. If you understand the product, it doesn’t need any explanation. The essence of my design is for it to be bought and used. Therefore it has to satisfy not only the functional aspects, but also the psychological and aesthetic needs. For me simplicity describes the true identity of objects and makes them trustworthy. In my design I try not to add any unnecessary details. I work with simplicity by highlighting the necessities instead of hiding them. It gives the product a simple and honest expression.” Simon Legald
